Types of Social Media
Social
media is a phrase that we throw around a lot these days, often to describe what
we post on sites and apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and others. Most people today define
social media as apps on their smartphone or tablet, but the truth is, this
communication tool started with computers that enable people to interact with
each other by both sharing and consuming information.
- Social Network - sites that allow you to interact with other people (facebook, google+)
- Bookmarking Sites - allow to store and manage links (pinterest)
- Social News - allow users to post their own news items or links to other news sources (reddit, digg)
- Media Sharing - sites that allow you to upload your photos,
videos and audio to website that can be accessed from anywhere in the
world (youtube, instagram)
- Microblogging - allows users to create short messages to be posted and shared with an audience online (twitter, plurk)
- Blogs and Forums - website that dislplay postings by one or
more individuals in chronological order and usually has links to
comments on specific postings (blogger, wordpress, tumblr)
